Available Tours

The times listed for each tour are average times; most can be adjusted to some degree to accommodate your needs. If there are minimum ages listed these are firm, no exceptions. The group size is also listed if there are restrictions. If your group is larger than the number allowed we will divide your group to accommodate the requirements, if possible.

Aquaculture Unit

Group size no larger than 25

Guided tour of ponds and concrete vats displaying Mississippi catfish and fresh water shrimp. The tour includes information on the research conducted on-site and an overview of aquaculture in Mississippi. Group size of 25 maximum (larger groups can NOT be divided into groups of 25 to accommodate).

Athletic Facilities

Guided tour of Davis Wade Football Stadium, Humphrey Coliseum, Mize Pavilion, Leo Seal Jr. Football Complex, Dudy Noble Stadium and the Templeton (Hall of Fame). Davis Wade Football Stadium tours will be available on Wednesdays only. Leo Seal Jr. Football Complex tours will be available on Mondays, as available, during the semester. The other athletic tours will be given as available. Tours will last about 45 minutes per area toured.

Chapel of Memories

Charles H. Templeton, Sr. Music Museum

Starkville businessman Charles Templeton, Sr.'s collection of 200 instruments, 13,000 pieces of music, and 15,000 pieces of sheet music from the Ragtime era and more.

Cobb Institute Museum of Archaeology

Must be 1st grade or older. Group size no larger than 25.

Exhibits feature artifacts from the ancient Middle East and Southeastern U.S.

Cullis & Gladys Wade Clock Museum

Located at the Cullis Wade Depot, the Wade Clock Museum boasts a collection of over 400 time pieces dating back as far as the 1700's. On the second floor is a small art gallery that features work by students, faculty, and alumni.

This is a self-guided tour. Most exhibits are works of MSU faculty, staff and students.

Dunn-Seiler Geology Museum

Features rocks, fossils, and other geological pieces, including a Triceratops skull. Museum tours are available at select times during the semester. Per the Geology Department policy, fossil digs can not be rescheduled. (Available to 2nd grade & above)

Extension Arthropod (Bug) Zoo and Mississippi Entomological Museum

Guided tour of the Extension Arthropod (Bug) Zoo and the Mississippi Entomological (Insect) Museum.Maximum group size is 30 (group will have to be divided in museum), groups larger than 30 can NOT be accommodated.

Historic Tour

Group size determined by mode of transportation

This tour is best given as a combination of driving and walking. This tour begins at the Welcome Center and involves 17 historic structures or points of interest.

Joe Frank Sanderson Center

Guided tour of this state-of-the-art recreation facility which includes two gymnasia, a jogging track, racquetball courts, an indoor swimming pool, table tennis, and may other areas.

John Grisham Room

Mississippi Agricultural & Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES), Custer Dairy Processing Plant

Guided tour of the MAFES cheese factory and a brief introduction to the process by which MSU's famous cheese and ice cream are made. Tours are available various times but will not be available in November and December. (Must be 13 years of age or older.)

Mitchell Memorial Library

R. R. Foil Plant Science Research Center (North Farm)

Thad Cochran Research, Technology and Economic Development Park

This tour is given as a driving tour through the research park, discussing the buildings and research as you pass.

Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library & The Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana
